Our Town

Nestled along the banks of the beautiful waters of the Tchefuncte River lies the historic town of Madisonville, Louisiana. Madisonville is located north of Lake Pontchartrain, approximately 40 miles from New Orleans. The town is easily accessible from the south via the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway and from the north taking I-12 to LA Highway 21 South to LA Highway 22 and the Tchefuncte River.

The population within town limits of Madisonville is just over 800 residents. However, over the past several years, the areas surrounding the town have seen rapid growth as families are drawn to its historic charm and great school district. Retaining its character as a river town, Madisonville features a lighthouse, marinas, recreational boating and maritime activities of all kinds. Overlooking the river are some of the area’s finest restaurants and specialty shops as well as a thriving business community. Annually, Madisonville welcomes thousands of visitors to the historic town who arrive to celebrate its many festivals.

The strong sense of historic preservation is shared by descendants of the original settlers and new residents alike. Restoration of many original homes continue as well as new construction in keeping with the character of the town. The charm, hospitality and history make picturesque Madisonville a wonderful destination for a day, a week, or even for a lifetime.
